USPS Star Wars stamps.

Clear your mind.
Now feel the Force flow through you. Use it to guide your actions as you click on the stamp you want to reign above all others.

My immediate, knee-jerk reaction is to vote for one of these two:

Darth Maul and Boba Fett, two bad-ass dudes who exude menace from the sidelines. I love these two, especially Darth Maul. CAL and J are sick to death of hearing me bemoan the fact that Darth Maul died at the end of Phantom Menace, that he should have been made into a much bigger character, but it still frosts me. I'll never forgive George Lucas for that idiot decision. The man had pure gold with Darth Maul, and he threw it away.

CAL sent me this link, by the way, and so I give her her due.

Anyway, if Star Wars is going to be commemorated on a stamp, the image should be more representative of the movies as a whole. If it were up to me, I would pick something from the Darth Vader / Luke Skywalker duel on Bespin. When Vader says, "Luke, I am your father," I do believe that's the pinnacle of Star Wars-dom.

Unfortunately, that's not one of the choices being offered.

For me personally, the most iconic scene from the movies, the one that always give me a strange shiver of fanboy delight, are the scenes from Episode 1 where C-3PO and R2-D2 have left the escape pod and are trudging across the Tatooine desert. Seeing that never fails to make me feel like I'm 7 years old again.

Tatooine

Unfortunately, this isn't one of the choices either.

And so, with my mind clear and at peace, emotions brought to a stand still, I think this choice is the best, the most representative of the ones offered.

It was a toss-up between this and the Luke Skywalker on Tatooine stamp. Both of them are more than just a great character, but a great moment. I love the bit where Luke gazes off into the horizon with John Williams' score playing beautifully behind him. However, the stamp with R2 has a greater visual punch to it. If anyone should carry the whole of the Star Wars legacy on his shoulders, it should be R2.

Early next year, I think.
